Diving Deeper with Doug Heller of the Consumer Federation of America
Doug Heller has spent his career working to protect drivers all across the country from unfair rates charged by auto insurance companies.
The Director of Insurance at the Consumer Federation of America and a longtime consultant on Michigan auto insurance issues, Doug sat down with Tom Judd to discuss how Michigan compares to the rest of the nation in terms of auto insurance rates. Heller discusses rate hikes since the pandemic, issues with Michigan insurance companies reporting profits, and major flaws in the pricing models used to set rates in the Mitten State.
“Most people don’t realize this…Insurance companies do not just use your credit history for determining how much they are going to charge you or even if they will sell you a policy sometimes – it’s probably the single most important factor… or maybe right up there with your zip code and the area you live in.”
Tune in to our second episode of Season 2 to learn more about how your rates are being impacted, and how every Michigander needs to hold their representatives responsible to address this problem statewide.
